Peptides & GLP-1s Explained: Microdosing, Benefits, Risks, and How to Use Them Safely | Period Besties Podcast In this Period Besties episode, hosts interview wellness expert Elissa Goodman about GLP-1s and peptides, explaining that peptides are chains of amino acids that support repair and that GLP-1s help lower blood sugar, reduce hunger and “food noise,” and may offer broader metabolic benefits; she also mentions a “GLP-3” coming to market. Goodman discusses microdosing to reduce side effects like nausea and constipation, concerns about under-eating, nutrient deficits, becoming “too skinny,” and muscle loss without resistance training. She reviews popular peptides (GHK-Cu, TB-500, BPC-157, “Glow Stick,” “Wolverine,” Selank for anxiety, Epitalon for telomeres, and Mot-C/Moxie for cognition/energy), emphasizes sourcing via doctors and compounding pharmacies rather than buying online, and describes her bloodwork-based process. They touch on autoimmune issues, PCOS/PMOS, inflammation, liver support, foundational habits (sleep, hydration, protein, vegetables/fiber), and her offered free consultation.

Gut Health, Stool Tests & Hormones: GI-MAP, H. pylori, Stress, Candida + Simple Digestion Fixes | Period Besties Podcast
In this episode of the Period Besties Podcast, Stasha and Katie interview gut health practitioner Carrie Sink about digestion, poop, and how stool testing (especially the GI-MAP) can reveal microbiome imbalances, digestive function, immune markers, inflammation, and missing beneficial bacteria.
Carrie explains why results must be interpreted alongside symptoms and history, when retesting is helpful, and how improving gut health can support hormonal health, PMS, heavy or painful periods, and thyroid function.
They discuss the strong link between Hashimoto’s and H. pylori, what H. pylori is, common and “non-GI” symptoms like fatigue, and conventional vs herbal eradication strategies. The conversation also covers stress and undereating as drivers of poor digestion, chewing and meal timing as free tools, candida and parasite cleanse hype, and foundational habits like daily pooping, sleep, and nourishing carbs and fiber.
Carrie Sink helps clients find relief from chronic digestive symptoms and restore balance to their bodies using a whole body, root-cause approach. With over 10 years of clinical experience in private practice, she combines her expertise in gut health, GI Mapping, functional lab testing, and nutrition/lifestyle coaching to empower clients to heal naturally, use food as medicine, restore gut health, cultivate peace and discover what works best for their unique needs.

Abnormal Mammogram to Biopsy: Dense Breasts, Family History, and Coping While You Wait | Period Besties Podcast
Stasha shares a real-time update after a July 9 follow-up mammogram and ultrasound prompted by an abnormality in her left breast. The additional imaging was more painful than a regular mammogram, and the ultrasound showed many cysts plus a darker mass that was “not a cyst,” leading the doctor to recommend a fast biopsy due to Stasha’s high-risk category and a calculated 25% risk (vs. 10% general population).
She and Katie discuss Stasha’s strong family history of breast cancer, dense breasts, and why she pushed to schedule an MRI soon rather than waiting six months. They talk about managing anxiety during the waiting period, leaning on support, self-exams, and staying busy with healthy coping strategies and upcoming projects.

Hormone Testing Explained: Blood Work vs Dutch vs Hormone Zoomer (Cortisol, Toxins, Perimenopause) | Period Besties
In this Period Besties Podcast episode, hosts welcome Maria of Rupp Wellness to explain hormone testing options and why many people with clear symptoms still get “normal” results on standard blood work.
Maria compares blood labs with functional testing like the Hormone Zoomer (which she calls the gold standard), emphasizing hormone metabolites, multi-point saliva cortisol patterns, and screening for endocrine disruptors and toxins such as BPA, atrazine, triclosan, and glyphosate.
The conversation covers how cortisol, insulin resistance, gut health, and toxins can drive hormone imbalance, plus connections to sleep, melatonin, testosterone, thyroid function, and supplement quality. They discuss budget-friendly approaches, advocating for foundational lifestyle changes, targeted labs (including thyroid panels and vitamin D), and careful testing before adding hormones, especially in perimenopause.
Maria Rupp, RDN, LDN, is an Integrative and Functional Registered Dietitian and the founder of Rupp Wellness. She earned dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Nutrition & Dietetics and Hospitality Management from East Carolina University, along with a minor in Business Administration. With over 14 years of experience, Maria has worked across a wide range of healthcare settings including hospitals, long-term care facilities, university research, workplace wellness, and disease management programs. Her clinical focus includes women’s health, hormone balance, gastrointestinal health, metabolic wellness, autoimmune conditions, pediatric nutrition, behavioral and sensory challenges, and chronic or unexplained health concerns. Maria’s passion for functional medicine was born from her own personal healing journey after overcoming a decade-long battle with PCOS, migraines, and infertility. Her dedication deepened even further after helping reverse food sensitivities and sensory processing challenges within her own family. These experiences continue to shape her compassionate, root-cause approach to care. Today, Maria is passionate about helping individuals and families uncover the “why” behind their symptoms and create sustainable, personalized wellness plans that support long-term healing. Her approach blends evidence-based nutrition with integrative and functional strategies to help clients feel empowered, supported, and truly understood throughout their health journey. Outside of practice, Maria enjoys boating, reading, and spending quality time with her husband Chris, their three children — Vale, Willow, and Theodore — and their dogs, Lincoln and Aspen.
